Our Sustainability Statement
We seek to understand the impacts of our activities on the environment and seek solutions by adopting sound principles and best practice. Our studied approach is geared towards preserving the environment and taking a ‘green’ approach wherever possible and applicable. We will focus on reducing, reusing and recyling as a matter of course.
The aim of our sustainability statement is to ensure that Kestrel's own environmental impacts continue to be assessed and minimised wherever possible.
Kestrel is committed to the following principles:
- The practice of responsible energy management through reduced consumption and the encouragement of energy efficiency throughout our offices
- The choice of products and suppliers which minimise negative environmental impacts subject to necessary budgetary constraints
- The minimisation of waste by reduced consumption and the development of effective waste management and recycling procedures
- The continued monitoring and audit of our environmental policies and practice
We have instituted a number of specific actions relating to our sustainability statement:
- Instituted an employee 'Ride to work' scheme
- Use of non-chlorine bleached environmentally responsible paper for printing
- Establish paper collection point(s) in the office for recycling bins to dispose of waste paper
- Use energy saving lighting
- Make maximum use of daylight and always switch off the lights at the end of the day
- Avoid using plastic cups and disposable products
- Use rechargeable batteries
- Ensure electrical equipment is Energy Star compliant
- Don’t have the air conditioning on at the same time as the heating!
- Monitors, PCs, photocopiers and printers to be switched off at night
- Enable power saving features for computer monitors when not typing (rather than a screen-saver, which saves the screen but not energy!)
- Buy goods with a recycled or reconditioned content
- Include eco-criteria in major purchases
- Ensure proper maintenance of office equipment to enable it to work more efficiently
- Buy products that keep packaging to a minimum
- Set printer’s or copier’s sleep mode, so when they are not actually printing/copying the energy consumption is minimal
- Avoid overprinting by taking care to calculate how many copies are needed to cut down on wastage
