Demonstrating that national and local guidance on consultation has been rigourously followed is a key part of any successful application and Kestrel has a strong track record of involving communities in this process.
We focus on achieving the following objectives on behalf of our clients:
- Informing communities about emerging policies and proposals in good time
- Providing the local community/ stakeholders with information on all aspects of the project in order to promote understanding and acceptance, rather than objection and rejection
- Building on existing goodwill and trust between the client and the local community
- Identifing any concerns within the community and responding to these with appropriate action to alleviate such concerns
- Identifing and rectifing any misconceptions or misinformation regarding the project detail
- Providing a point of contact for information and two-way dialogue between the client and the community.
- Ensuring the client is seen to be listening to and responding to the concerns, suggestions and requirements of the community as part of the consultation process.
- Allowing communities to put forward ideas and suggestions and participate in developing proposals and options. Government planning guidelines state that it is not sufficient to invite communities to simply comment once plans have been worked-up
- Ensuring that consultation takes place in locations that are widely accessible
